    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Sep 2 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 3/9/2002 to 4/9/2002

    Fine but locally partly cloudy with risk of isolated showers, mainly over mountains and inland, in the afternoon. Winds will be light to moderate sea breezes and the state of sea slight but locally moderate.

    Maximum temperature: 33 C inland and around 30C over coastal areas. Minimum temperature: 20 C inland and around 21C over coastal areas.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 5/9/2002 to 6/9/2002

    No change. Small decrease in temperature is expected.

    Limassol, Sep 2 (CNA) -- Eight members of the Cyprus Ecologists - Environmentalists Movement, led by their deputy George Perdikis, gathered at the Fasouri-Akrotiri road, protesting plans for the installation of a gigantic antenna by the British Bases, at Akrotiri Salt Lake, within the Bases area, near the southern coastal town of Limassol.

    Nicosia, Sep 2 (CNA) - Slovakia has made history with its contribution to rapprochement efforts between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political party leaders, House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias said here today.

    Speaking after meeting outgoing Slovak Ambassador Dusan Rozbora, Christofias said "Czechoslovakia and subsequently Slovakia have greatly contributed in efforts to solve the Cyprus problem".

    EU Youth Orchestra opens Kypria International Festival

    Nicosia, Sep 2 (CNA) - The European Union Youth Orchestra is giving here Monday a second concert conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy, with the participation of the Greek Radio-Television Choir and the Makedonia Choir.

    The concert will present the 9th Symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven with soloists Inger Dam-Jensen (soprano), Hilary Summers (contralto), Klaus Schneider (Tenor) and Kyros Patsalides (baritone).
