Nicosia, Aug 24 (CNA) -- Greece's Deputy Foreign Minister Ioannis Magriotis believes that Turkey is trapped to a large degree in the question of Cyprus. He pointed out that Ankara will benefit more than anybody else if it were to change its tune on Cyprus and end the island's division and occupation.

Speaking after a meeting here with President Glafcos Clerides, he also said he was confident that the European Council in December will invite Cyprus and other candidate countries to join the Union.

Nicosia, Aug 24 (CNA) -- Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Minister Costas Themistocleous departs this afternoon for Johannesburg to represent Cyprus in the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), to be held August 26 to September 4 in the South African city of Johannesburg.

The Minister will be representing President Glafcos Clerides, whose schedule could not allow him to travel to South Africa, since UN-led peace talks on the Cyprus issue are due to resume on Tuesday.
