Religion and civilisation can unite people, speakers tell a meeting

Nicosia, Mar 8 (CNA) -- The message that with mutual respect it is possible for all people, irrespective of religion, to live together in peace, was sent out by speakers from all over the world representing different religious denominations at a four-day international congress, entitled "Encounter of Religions and Civilisations."

In his message to the congress, organised by the Cultural Foundation of Kykkos Monastery, President Glafcos Clerides said Cyprus has given proof that with mutual respect it is possible for Christians, Muslims, Maronites, Armenians and Latins to co-exist constructively and progress. He assured that the government will always cooperate in such efforts "that augur well for the future of the world."
