    [03] House - Anti-terrorism bill

    Nicosia, Oct 11 (CNA) -- The government tabled a bill today at the House of Representatives with a view to ratify the International Convention to Combat the Financing of Terrorism, as part of its effort to assist the worldwide fight against terrorism.

    The plenary of the House referred the bill, tabled by Justice and Public Order Minister Nicos Koshis, to the House Foreign Affairs Committee for consideration.

    [04] Foreign Minister - UAE

    Nicosia, Oct 11 (CN�) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides leaves tomorrow for the United Arab Emirates.

    According to an official press release, during his stay in the UAE Kasoulides will hold talks with his UAE counterpart Rashid Ablullah Al- Noaimi.

    Kasoulides returns home next Sunday, October 14. CN�/MK/RM/2001

    [05] Finance Minister - US Deputy Secretary

    Nicosia, Oct 11 (CNA) -- Cyprus Finance Minister Takis Klerides has reaffirmed Cyprus' will to combat the financing of terrorism during a phone conversation he had today with US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Department for Foreign Relations John Taylor.

    Klerides told CNA that he had briefed Taylor "on the Cyprus government' decision to approve the bill for the elimination of the financing of terrorist organisations, as a follow-up to the adoption of the UN convention." CN�/CST/MK/RM/2001

    [06] Cyprus Rally 2002 - Press Conference

    Nicosia, Oct 11 (CNA) -- The Cyprus Rally 2002 will take place March 8 - 10, Clerk of the course Takis Kyriakides said here today, rejecting reports in the foreign Press that Cyprus would be excluded from the 2002 Rally Calendar.

    Speaking at a press conference, Kyriakides said that for the first time the Cyprus Automobile Association (AA) had set up a special committee that would be responsible of attracting tourists that would watch the Rally. He added that this was the third Rally (included in the World Championship Rally) Cyprus would organise during the last 18 months. CNA/GSA/RM/MK/2001

    [07] Health Minister - Anthrax disease

    Nicosia, Oct 11 (CNA) -- Cyprus has at its disposal medicines for the treatment of the anthrax disease, should it occur, Cyprus Health Minister Frixos Savvides told CNA today, however noting that in case of massive affection of the population, fatalities would be unavoidable.

    Savvides said that anthrax disease is treated with penicillin, which is produced in Cyprus, by pharmaceutical companies and noted that Cyprus is in position to provide penicillin for other countries in case of an emergency. CNA/MK/RM/2001
