    [01] European Commission - Enlargement - Movement of workers

    Brussels, Apr 12 (CNA) -- The European Commission has agreed to propose transitional arrangements to phase in full rights to free movement of workers for new member states, except Cyprus and Malta.

    The proposal envisages a general transition of period of five years with a possible extension by individual member-states for a further two years and aims to meet concerns where they arise and where they are justified, while allowing for mobility of workers.

    [02] Weather forecast for Cyprus

    �icosia, �pr 12 (CNA) - The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Friday and Saturday : 10/04/2001 to 11/04/2001

    The weather on Friday will be fine with fresh southwesterly winds. The sea will be slight and temperatures will range from 9 to 22 inland and from 13 to 23 on the coast.

    On Saturday, the weather will be partly cloudy with occassional rain.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 12/04/2001 to 13/04/2001

    Fine weather is expected on Sunday but on Monday the weather will gradually become unsettled with rain and possibly thunderstorms. Temperature will remain much the same.

    Sea Temperature: 19 �C

    [03] Cyprus - Turkish citizen

    Nicosia, Apr 12 (CNA) -- The Cypriot authorities were ready to extradite a Turkish citizen wanted in Turkey for a case of murder, Attorney General Alekos Markides told CNA.

    Fisherman Mustafa Muhsuroglu, aged 38 of Kayseri, Turkey, was arrested by Cyprus Police and was imprisoned, because he was found guilty, by a Cyprus Court, of illegally entering the territory of the Cyprus Republic through an illegal port, occupied by Turkish troops since 1974.

    [05] UNFICYP - Austrian contingent

    Nicosia, Apr 12 (CNA) -- The Austrian contingent of the UN peace-keeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) will leave by end of August, having served here for the past 38 years, UN acting spokesman Charles Gaulkin has said.

    "The departure of the peace-keepers will take place in stages, starting in June and concluding in August," he told CNA, adding that Slovak peace- keepers will replace the outgoing Austrians.
