    [01] Cyprus President - Water supply

    Nicosia, Jan 22 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides today announced the lifting of all restrictions on water supply at a press conference held at the Presidential Palace.

    As from today all households in Cyprus will have running water 24 hours a day, the President said, describing water shortage as one of the most crucial problems humanity faces today.

    [02] Cyprus House President - Russia - IFUOCN Award

    Larnaca, Jan 22 (CNA) -- Cyprus House of Representatives President Spyros Kyprianou left today for a three-day visit to Moscow where he will be honoured by the International Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations (IFUOCN) and have a series of high-level meetings on the Cyprus question.

    "Russia's role in the Cyprus peace effort is important because it is a member of the UN Security Council and has the good will and intention to help," Kyprianou told reporters at Larnaca airport.

    [03] Cyprus Foreign Minister - Visit to Spain

    Larnaca, Jan 22 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides left today for a four-day official visit to Spain, at the invitation of his counterpart Josep Pique. The Cypriot minister will convey a message from President Glafcos Clerides to King Juan Carlos.

    The Foreign Minister will discuss with the Spanish Foreign Minister Cyprus' European Union accession course and the latest developments in the Cyprus problem. He will also have a series of meetings with the President's of the country's parliament and senate and the parliamentary Committees for Foreign and European Affairs. CNA MAN/ITS/MA/GP/2001

    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    �icosia, Jan 22 (CNA) - The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 23/1/2001 to 24/1/2001

    Mainly fine but a risk of snowfall over the mountains mainly on Tuesday. The wind will be Northeast to Northwest light, 3BF and the state of sea will be slight.

    Maximum Temperature: 15C inland and 17C on the coast. Minimum Temperature: 4C inland and 6C on the coast.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 25/01/2001 to 26/01/2001

    Risk of snowfalls over the mountains on Thursday while on Friday will be mainly fine and rather cold. Further decrease in temperature. Ground forst in expected around dawn.

    [05] Cyprus Foreign Minister - Belgian State Secretary

    Larnaca, Jan 22 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides today said he considers the issue that had come up with statements made here by Belgian State Secretary Annemie Neyts with regard to the regime in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus as closed, following clarifications given by her spokesman.

    "It has become clear that Belgium recognises only one Republic of Cyprus and that if there is to be recognition of an equal status between one and the other, as is the case with all federations this will occur within the framework of a future settlement," Kasoulides told reporters at Larnaca airport before his departure for an official visit to Spain.

    [07] Cyprus President - Rescue team - Medals

    Nicosia, Jan 22 (CNA) - President Glafcos Clerides today awarded Altruism and Self-sacrifice Medals to four members of the Cyprus Police and three members of the Royal Air Force (RAF) serving in the British Bases in Cyprus, for risking their lives last month to rescue the nine-member crew of the "Royal Prince", which hit a storm and sank on its return from Lebanon, where it dropped off illegal immigrants sent back to the neighbouring country.

    Speaking at the ceremony, President Clerides congratulated the seven men, noting that "the spirit of altruism and self-sacrifice" they have shown "causes feelings of pride to all of us" and that they "deservedly won the respect and appreciation of our people". CNA/MK/RG/GP/2001

    [08] British High Commissioner - Tziakourmas

    Nicosia, Jan 22 (CNA) - British High Commissioner to Cyprus Edward Clay said today that on Wednesday "the Sovereign Base Areas Police are going to have a reconstruction of the events" that led to the abduction of Greek Cypriot Panicos Tziakourmas from the Bases area on December 13, 2000, and his illegal detention in the Turkish-occupied areas of the Republic.

    Clay explained that "this is part of their pursuit of evidence about the circumstances in which Tziakourmas left the Dhekelia SBA Area", adding that the Greek Cypriot would be taken before an illegal court in the north on January 30. CNA/MAN/ITS/MK/RG/GP/2001
