[06] Cyprus - Cultural identity - ICOMOS
Nicosia, Jan 16 (CNA) - A page about Cyprus is included in the annual
report "Heritage at Risk" of the International Council on Monuments and
Sites (ICOMOS), regarding the monuments and the archeological places, which
are in danger.
The report refers to the Turkish occupation of the northern third of Cyprus
and to the fact that all Greek names in the north, which were testimonies
to the ancient Greek culture, have been changed as a result of the 1974
Turkish invasion and occupation of 37 percent of the island.
