[08] British Bases - Pergamos - Control point - Security measures

Larnaca, Dec 15 (CNA) -- The British Bases in Cyprus have put up a temporary control point in the area of Pergamos, where a Greek Cypriot was abducted by the Turkish occupation forces on Wednesday, in order to increase the sense of security of people living there. They have also expressed concern over how the incident occured.

The atmosphere in Pergamos, in the east of the island and within Bases area, has been tense since the abduction of 40-year-old Panicos Tziakourmas, while the incident has scared off Greek Cypriot employers who over the past two days have not turned up to pick up some 150 Turkish Cypriots who come to the government-controlled areas of the Republic to work on their construction sites.
