[01] Alvaro de Soto - Article - El Salvador - Cyprus

By Maria Myles Nicosia, 30(CNA) -- In an article he wrote long before he knew he would be conducting peace negotiations with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides, the UN chief's special adviser for Cyprus Alvaro de Soto makes only one reference to the political problem on the island. But his contribution to a recently published book entitled "Herding Cats", on multiparty mediation, provides a good insight into the man behind the Cyprus peace effort, his methodology and tactics.

One might, therefore, be forgiven for drawing some parallels between the aspects of the two processes.
