    [01] Spokesman - US officials visit

    Nicosia, Mar 6 (CNA) - The government expects that the US will be more actively engaged in efforts to settle the Cyprus question in order to help create the conditions for a viable solution, its Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today.

    The government expects a more substantive contribution from the US in efforts to find a settlement of the Cyprus settlement in order to create the preconditions for a viable solution to the problem on the basis of UN decisions," Papapetrou said, replying to press questions ahead of tomorrow's visit to Cyprus by US high ranking officials.

    [02] Cyprus government - Turkish Cypriots

    Nicosia, Mar 6 -- The government has underlined that Turkish Cypriots who flee the areas of the island occupied by Turkey since 1974 are entitled to enjoy the same rights as all other citizens of the Cyprus Republic.

    Replying to questions on the issue today, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said that between 200 and 250 persons, most of whom Turkish Cypriots, have left the occupied areas in the past two months to settle in the government-controlled areas.

    [03] UN envoy - Turkish Cypriot leader

    Nicosia, Mar 6 (CNA) - Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash today raised his unacceptable demand for the establishment of a confederation of two states on the island, contrary to UN resolutions, in statements to the press before his meeting with the Secretary-General's special adviser for Cyprus Alvaro de Soto.

    On his part the UN official, who was appointed last year and led two rounds of talks between the two sides, said he is here "to learn more about the Cyprus problem and to associate geographical places with geographical names" and see "how UNFICYP works".

    [04] Cyprus - Iranian Health Minister - Visit

    Nicosia, Mar 6 (CNA) - Iranian Health Minister Mohammad Fahradi arrives here Wednesday for a three- day official visit during which a cooperation agreement between Cyprus and Iran on public health and medical education will be signed.

    During his stay, Fahradi will be received by President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides and will have official talks with his Cypriot counterpart Frixos Savvides, who invited him to the island.

    [05] Cyprus - Slovenia - Agreements

    Nicosia, Mar 6 (CNA) - Cyprus and Slovenia have initialled cooperation agreements on merchant shipping and international road transport, an official announcement issued today says. The two agreements were initialled last week in Slovenia during a visit by a delegation of the Cyprus Ministry of Communications and Works headed by the ministry Permanent Secretary Vassos Pyrgos.
