Phileleftheros says that contacts have already began regarding the stance smaller parties will adopt during the second round of the presidential elections on February 15. The paper says that Edek have already decided to hold a meeting of their central committee on Monday, February 9, to discuss the party's strategy in view of the second round. According to the paper United Democrats leader George Vassiliou has said that his party and Edek could adopt a `parallel' stance during the second round. Simerini says that a new row seems to be brewing within the ranks of Diko. The party's vice-president Dinos Michaelides on Monday threw his weight behind the candidacy of Diko MP Alexis Galanos. Regarding the second round Michaelides said that he will name the person he will back on Monday. The paper also reports that Disy are disputing the results of the Amer poll which has George Iacovou leading President Clerides during the first and second round of the elections. The poll shows Iacovou leading Clerides by 2.4 percentage points in the first round and by 1.5 percentage points in the second round. Alithia highlights comments by Dinos Michaelides that the Diko votes will go to Alexis Galanos during the first round. The paper says that more Diko members yesterday offered their support to Galanos. On another issue the paper says that a woman from Limassol is suing George Iacovou because her photograph was used without her consent in one of his election pamphlets. Agon focuses on the Amer opinion poll and says that according to the results a tight race seems to be shaping up between Clerides and Iacovou in the second round. The paper says that Disy have disputed the results of the poll. This prompted the Amer boss Yiannis Papadopoulos to issue a statement saying that if anyone has any proof that the poll had not been conducted properly he would be willing to investigate these claims. Machi says that the young woman from Limassol, whose photo is on an Iacovou pamphlet, has said that this has caused her problems with relatives and friends. The paper also says that the Russian government has tactfully shown its support for the candidacy of President Clerides. To support its claims the paper quotes the Russian ambassador's statement that the S-300 missiles cannot be delivered sooner, something that Iacovou said he will pursue if elected. Haravghi highlights an election gathering for Iacovou in Larnaca to say that the attendance of the gathering send the message that Larnaca votes for Iacovou.
