NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The first part of the 8th session of the Republika Srpska Parliament, is concluded on Mt. Jahorina by the adopting of the Law on changes and amendments to the Law on privatisation. Some 50 deputies voted FOR and 23 AGAINST the Draft Law on changes and amendments to the Law on privatisation with the amendments of the Government and parliamentary commissions. The Assembly previously rejected the proposal of the deputies of the Alliance for Peace and Progress and SPAS that the passing of a Law be delayed for a month at least. Following eight hours of talking, the RS Parliament adopted a Report on the Work of Government for the period from December to May. The government's report, which was read by RS prime minister Gojko Klickovic, won 44 votes FOR, 24 AGAINST with 6 votes SUSTAINED. The premier Klickovic pointed out before the voting that numerous suggestions will be included in the Government's working programme, but he warned that not even one of the programmes is possible to realise by the promises of the world financial institutions.

SARAJEVO - The Presidency of B&H held a preliminary session in Serb Sarajevo before the meeting of the Contact Group member states takes place in Sintra, Portugal on May 30. As the president from RS in the Presidency of B&H, Momcilo Krajisnik said, the solutions for some of the issues were found, while the rest have yet to be reached through the consultations with the US special envoy for the former Yugoslavia, Robert Gelbard who is expected to arrive in Sarajevo tomorrow.

SARAJEVO - The minister for civilian affairs and communications in the Council of Ministers, Spasoje Albijanic, talked in Pale with the minister of internal affairs of the German province of Hesse, Gerhardt Bakeloe, on the problems and possibilities for the repatriation of the refugees presently accommodated in Germany. Speaking about the problem, the minister Albijanic suggested that the refugees should be classified into three categories for the time of their returning from the states of asylum. Within the first category of returnees all the Serbs from RS are to return to RS and all of the Bosniacs and Croats from the Federation to the Federation, stated Albijanic.

DOBOJ - Even though they obliged themselves to help in the lightening of the fate of the missing Serb soldiers on Mt. Ozren and Vozuca, the Muslim side failed to fulfil their promise, this way the finding of the missing persons was slowed down considerably. This is a conclusion of the meeting of the Commission on searching for the missing persons in RS and the FB&H, which took place in Doboj. The OHR representative, Sheila Bery, concluded that this happened after it was established that the Muslims had re-located the mass graves in Gostovic and Stog, in which about 54 bodies were buried, in other words, eight Serb soldiers and civilians.

SARAJEVO - The first public presentation of the 'the 1997- 2000 Strategic Reform and Reconstruction Plan of the RS health system' took place in Pale. The strategic plan was drafted by a group of experts of the RS Ministry of Health and Social Care in cooperation with the World Health Organisation Regional Office to Europe. The speaker of the RS Parliament, Dragan Kalinic, addressed the guests, stressing that RS broke off with communism, wishing to lay a foundation for a modern and prosperous health system in a democratic and a liberal-capitalistic society that is being now created.

BELGRADE - The US special envoy for the former Yugoslavia, Robert Gelbard, stated in Belgrade that 'the USA intend to assure itself that the Dayton agreement will be fully implemented', saying that this is also the aim of Madeleine Albright's visit to the region. After the meeting with the Serbian president, Slobodan Milosevic, and then with representatives of the opposition and students' organisations, Gelbard stated for journalists that 'he talked for a couple of hours with Milosevic about the consolidation of democracy in Serbia, the problem of Kosovo and the extradition of the indicted war criminals'.
