  • [01] Romanian President Emil Constantinescu on a visit to India

    Romanian President Emil Constantinescu has ended his three-day visit to India inviting Indian businessmen to invest in Romania, "the gate to the markets in Central and Eastern Europe" as he put it. The president told Indian businessmen in Bombay - the financial capital of India - that the attraction of capital and foreign technology is one of the key-elements in the programme of economic liberalisation which Bucharest started 10 months ago. He also said that Romania is the most stable among the countries which made up the former communist block. President Constantinescu explained that, India is a major country among the Asian states developing economic relations with Romania. During the visit, which started in New Delhi on Monday, an agreement on investment protection and promotion and another for technological and cultural cooperation were signed. In New Delhi, President Constantinescu met his Indian counterpart Koheril Rahman Narayanan and Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral. RRI-RADOR, Nvember 20

    [02] G 24 meeting in Brussels

    "Participants in the G 24 Consultative Group met in Brussels for talks with international financial organisations. They appreciated as positive the progress of reform in Romania", Romanian Finance Minister Mircea Ciumara said. Romania presented a series of projects aimed at improving infrastructure through WB, EBRD and other financial aid. Mircea Ciumara said that the first offer for supporting these projects was the European Investment Bank which has anounced it could provide funds for improving transports, environment protection and welfare. Participating in the same meeting, Romanian Transport Minister Traian Basescu mentioned that he presented six projects concerning the modernisation of railways and road networks. He announced that the projects are to financed by the EBRD, EIB, WB and G 24. RRI-RADOR, November 20

    [03] Romanian Government reshuffle

    "The Romanian Government reshuffle will take place next week", Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea said on Wednesday after meeting the coordination and control body of the Christian-Demcrat National Peasant Party (PNT-CD). According to Mr. Ciorbea, there will be a substantial reshuffle as some ministerial departments will merge in the very next future. A Privatisation Ministry will be set up and a 10% reduction in the number of state secretaries will be operated. PNT-CD has various versions of reshuffle to present during negociations with its partners in the governing coalition. RRI-RADOR, November 20

    [04] Romanian Defence Minister Victor Babiuc on a visit to Poland

    "Romania and Poland wish to cooperate in the field of defence", Polish Defence Minister Janusz Onyszkiewicz and his Romanian counterpart Victor Babiuc told journalists in Warsaw. In this respect, a joint commission was created to work out the details of future cooperation. While on a visit to Poland, Minister Babiuc was told that Warsaw will support Bucharest in its NATO accession. The two defence ministers also agreed to meet at least once in a year for consultations.     [05] 96% of the corn crop picked up

    The 96% of the corn crop already picked up reach over 11.9 billion tons, meaning 400,000 tons more than expected - the Minister for Food and Agriculture informed. While the producers hold over 11 million tons, only 800,000 tons are destined to human and cattle consumption. 230,000 tons from the total sugar beet output are destned to human and cattle consumption and only 35,000 tons are held by the producers. Nearly 98% of the the total beet crop - 387 billion tons - have been picked up already. RADOR, November 20

    Weather in Romania will be cold in most of the country. Snowfalls and rains are forecast especially in northern and mountain regions. Temperatures will range from -4 centigrades in the morning to 5 centigades at noon. RADOR, November 20
