[01] NATO in Bucharest
The Standing Commission of the North-Atlantic Assembly met on Sunday
morning in Bucharest the heads of the associate delegations. Also on Sunday,
the drafting commission got together to establish the final version of the
resolutions to be adopted by the session in the Romanian capital. The
Economic Commission of the North-Atlantic Assembly debated on Saturday the
reports "Privatisations in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland" and
"Hungary in the World Economy". Several NATO MPs in the Netherlands, Italy,
Canada and Germany stated they were in favour of the idea that the
Parliament Palace in Bucharest, which hosted the debates, should become an
international conference centre to be included in the world circuit of
conferences. All participants admitted there were few conference centres in
the world offering so many opportunities. A proposal will be forwarded to
the UN for a next conference to be held in Bucharest. RRI-RADOR, October

[02] Romanian president returned from Strasbourg
"A Russian-French-German summit would be beneficial and not detrimental to
Romania's efforts to join NATO", Romanian President Emil Constantinescu
said upon his return from the Council of Europe summit in Strasbourg. He
explained that Russia never specifically opposed Romania's integration into
NATO and, consequently despite appearences, the three countries do not have
different opinions on the issue. Mr. Constantinescu also said that "five
years after its admission to the Council of Europe, Romania presented
itself free of complexes, monitoring or negative mentions". RRI-RADOR,
