  • [01] DEMAND TO REVOKE CUSTODY FOR EX-INTERIOR MINISTER DROPPED

    TIRANA, JUNE 19 (ATA)- By A.Frasheri, The Tirana court on Wednesday examined the revocation of custody for Vladimir Hysi, ex-Interior Minister, accused of abuse of office and hindering the discovery of the truth. At the end of the sitting, the panel of judges decided to reject this demand of Hysi and hold him under prison arrest.

    Vladimir Hysi's charge is related to an order issued by him by the end of 1991 to destroy Interior Ministry secret documents. Hysi was then Minister of Interior. The punishment envisaged for this penal act ranges from a fine to seven years imprisonment. kled/lm/sh/

    [02] ANTI ALBANIAN GRAFFITI IN MACEDONIA

    TIRANA, JUNE 19 (ATA) - Graffiti with anti Albanian content were seen on walls, Wednesday morning, in Tetova town of former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, the Information Centre of Kosova said.

    Such graffiti with offensive and hateful anti Albanian content were seen in the quarter "Mirce Acev". Some of them wrote in Macedonian: "Death to Albanians" and some others had a cross or a swastika.

    Tetova is in the western part of Macedonia close to the Albanian border. It is inhabited mostly of Albanians. Such graffiti against Albanians were also seen in this republic by the end of 1980.

    Authors of the last graffiti like those of the 1980 are not yet discovered. aca/pas/fh/

    [03] FORTY MILLION LEKS TO FIGHT GRASSHOPPERS

    TIRANA, JUNE 20 (ATA) - Albanian government has lately accorded a fund of 40 million Leks to fight the grasshoppers which have widely spread all over the planted areas in Albania.

    The highest number of these insects is mostly found in the Central and South Albanian districts and tends to spread in new directions.

    The fund accorded by the Albanian government is nearly thrice that offered last year for this aim. jz/fh/Z/

    [04] STATE TO BUY WHEAT FROM FARMERS AT A HIGHER PRICE

    TIRANA, JUNE 29 (ATA)- By K.Shegani, The Council of Ministers has recently decided that from June 20 the State Reserves General Department and the Wheat Store Enterprises in districts will buy the wheat from private farmers at the price of 20 leks per kilogram.

    The Agricultural specialist at the Wheat Department of the Food and Agricultural Ministry, Ali Balluku, told ATA that the substantial increase of the wheat price and consequently, the increase of the flour price in the international market at 30-35 per cent is among the measures that the Albanian government is taking to store farmers' reserves.

    Last year, the state bought the wheat at 15 leks per kilogram.lm/Z/

    TIRANA, JUNE 20 (ATA)-Under the headline "The Albanian new parliament convenes on July 1st", Today's Rilindja Demokratike carries the editorial: "The first parliament without communists". The paper carries the interview of the DP chairman, Tritan Shehu, entitled "New contribution to the Albanian democratic developments". It also reports on the participation of President Berisha in the annual Forum of of the political leaders and business in Switzerland.

    The paper carries a letter of Leni Fischer, Speaker of the CE Parliamentary Assembly, addressed to the Minister of Justice, Hektor Frasheri, which describes Albania's achievements as impressive.

    The paper runs the article "Once Again Pellumbi (SP deputy chairman) against Nano (chairman of this party) and the article "Albania's re- isolation demanded".

    Zeri i Popullit carries the article entitled: "June 16 polling was inadequate". The paper carries the article :"The Summit of the EU foreign ministers on Friday: The opposition letter arrives", and the article "We will fight to the end the installation of the Berisha dictatorship". The paper also carries the article :"The Albanian TV has favoured the party in power".

    Balli i Kombit carries the editorial:"Illusive isolation of prof. Abaz Ermenjo" and the article :"Rugova appreciates evolution of Serb political consciousness".

    Republika carries the article:"The elections will soon become a remote memory". The paper carries the article :"The DP preparing to govern". As regards the tense situation in Kosova, the paper carries the article: "What hides behind terrorist attacks?".

    Poli i Qendres says in its editorial that the U.S. State department embitters approach towards May 26 elections in Albania. The paper also carries the article:"Kapidani (CEC chairman) seeks to misinform Europe".

    Lajmi i Dites carries the article:"Mrs. Leni Fischer appreciates achievements of the Justice Ministry".

    Rilindja carries the article Bukoshi meets with U.S. officials Shifter and Perina ".

    Albania carries the article "Greek ultra-nationalist lobby in the U.S. accuses Albanian institutions". The paper carries the article "Islami preparing to take over the SP". The paper also carries the article "Kosova or the lighted fuse".

    Tribuna carries the editorial "On July 1,1996, the first Parliament without communists" and the article "The European Union- ECU 600 000 for Albania". As regards the situation in Kosova, the paper carries the article: "Tensions likely to increase in Kosova".

    Koha Jone carries the article: "Albania suspended by the Council of Europe" and the article "Bitter reaction of the U.S. State Department: May 26 elections in Albania, invalid".

    "Liria A" carries the editorial :"It is high time to be more united than ever in a powerful anticommunist front".

    Gazeta Shqiptare carries the editorial :"Great fraud with the vegetable oil bottles: 120 tons confiscated". The paper says that the U.S. State Department reports that "June 16 elections also inadequate".

    [06] SECOND ALL-NATIONAL LITERARY AWARD

    TIRANA, JUNE 19 (ATA) By Flora Nikolla - Sources of the Cultural Foundation "Velia" told to ATA "that this Foundation is preparing to award the winning prize in literature for the all-national literary creation of 1995."

    A speciaal jury will award the annual prize of USD 2500 to the best book in prose and poetry.

    All writers whose books were published during 1995 are invited to contest with their books in the above mentioned forms.

    This is the second competition organised by the Private Cultural Foundation "Velia" in Albania since its foundation three years ago.

    Kim Mehmeti with his book in stories "Fati i Fatushes" and the poet Visar Zhiti for his book in poetry "Throw a scull at your feet" were the winners of this all-national literary competition for 1994.

    The first private Albanian foundation "Velia" besides this competition has organised last year the international literary competition "Kadare" of USD20000, which was awarded to the well-known Argentinean writer Ernesto Sabato. jz/fh/Z/

    [07] ALBANIAN PRESIDENT LEFT FOR SWITZERLAND

    TIRANA, JUNE 20 (ATA) - Albania's President Sali Berisha today left for Crans Montana, Switzerland, to take part in the Annual Forum of political leaders and business, due to be held from June 20-23, 1996.

    President Berisha will have meetings with many distinguished politicians and representatives of business circles, participants in the forum. kei/xh/k

    [08] REPRESENTATIVES OF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY ATTEND "BORITEC" ACTIVITY IN MILAN

    TIRANA, JUNE 20 (ATA) - By Aljosha Keko: A delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Tirana, led by its Secretary-general, Gafur Luga, took part in the Boritec activity (International stock exchange of Cooperation, Development and Investments," held in Milan of Italy recently.

    After meetings with representatives of Italian business, the Chamber established contacts with many companies interested to invest in Albania such as Coral Eng VI Group, which wants to set up in Albania a timber processing factory estimated at 2 million dollars, Electromecanica Colombo, s.e.s. interested in trading transformers and other electromechanical equipment, Project 200 interested in electric house appliances, UNI interested in the production of paper with raw material from accumulated used paper etc.

    During its stay in Milan, the Albanian delegation met with Prof Marini, Secretary General of Fiera di Milano and General Director of IPI (Institute for Industrial Promotion centered in Rome.) Pro Marini said he would help institutionalize the relations between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tirana and IPI. jz/xh/k

    [09] MILOSEVIC MUST BE FORCED TO TALK FOR A SOLUTION TO KOSOVA ISSUE- European Parliamentarians

    PRISTINE, JUNE 20 (ATA) - European parliamentarians asked in a plenary session of the European Parliament that Milosevic must be put under a strong economic and political pressure and be forced to agree to talk on a final solution to the Kosova issue, Information Centre of Kosova reports.

    Some parliamentarians considered normal a possible recognition by the international community of the right of the people of Kosova for self- determination. They assessed that a special international conference on Kosova would be the first serious step for the solution of this question.

    European parliamentarians insisted that the European Union must be seriously committed to the solution of the question of Kosova. lind/kei/
