The declaration signed by the leaders outlines the six principles to be followed by the D-8 countries: peace, dialogue, cooperation, justice, equality and democracy. Vergau addressed a conference entitled, "the 35th Year of Turkish Migration to Germany", saying that the subject was one in which only those who are directly affected are interested in detail.

Expressing optimism about the eventual success of integration of Turks into German society, Vergau said learning the German language was an essential part of the integration of Turks with German society, adding, "We want a future where we can live together in an environment of mutual understanding."

Vergau said Turkey's step-by-step approach to the European Union will also be a factor which will reinforce mutual efforts. And, he said, the dynamism of Turkey's economic growth will be a realistic perspective in gradually overcoming the tension over the subject of migration./All papers/
