NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The president in the B-H Presidency from Republika Srpska (RS), Momcilo Krajisnik, strongly denied claims by the Belgrade's daily paper "Gradjanin" on his insisting upon attendance of the eventual meeting between Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic and RS president Biljana Plavsic. Assessing this report as a pure insinuation, president Krajisnik stated for SRNA that in no way he wanted to meet Biljana Plavsic. "Following the events in Banjaluka there is no combination in which I would request discussion with Biljana Plavsic, who unprecedently violated the constitution and law and all agreements reached in presence of His Holiness Patriarch of the Serbs, Pavle", stated Krajisnik, and added "Mrs Plavsic wants to divide RS and she betrays the Serbian national interests. That is why I do not want to meet her".

BEOGRAD - The presidents of Yugoslavia and RS, Slobodan Milosevic and Biljana Plavsic, respectively, should hold talks on the implementation of the Dayton agreement, in Belgrade on September 23 and 24, writes the Belgrade's daily paper "Gradjanin". In referring to sources close the cabinet of the RS president, "Gradjanin" alleges that the meeting was agreed to last Friday in Banjaluka during the visit of the Serbian Security Service chief, Jovica Stanisic to Banjaluka. The paper writes that the president in the B-H Presidency from RS, Momcilo Krajisnik, insists upon his attendance of the meeting, which Mrs Plavsic rejects.

PRNJAVOR - Prnjavor Board of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) and the representatives of the Prnjavor city assembly condemned last night the forced staff changes in the Prnjavor Public Security Station (CJB), a part of which officers avowed loyalty to RS president Biljana Plavsic. At a protest rally held by Prnjavor residents, the president of the SDS Municipal Board for Prnjavor, Momcilo Novakovic, stated that the forced and illegal replacement of the CJB officers was carried out in contravention of the law. "It is appalling that in this case none consulted municipal authorities or the SDS which got the majority vote at the local elections", stated Novakovic.

PRNJAVOR - No solution was reached to the problems provoked by forced replacement of the Prnjavor CJB officers, at Banjaluka's meeting between Prnjavor mayor, Nemanja Vasic, SFOR representatives and police officers loyal to Biljana Plavsic, Predrag Djeric and Dragan Lukac. "An agreement was not reached because I was told that this problem and the conflict itself exceeded the borders of the municipality of Pranjavor", stated Vasic at a protest rally of Prnjavor citizens, and reiterated the position of Prnjavor authorities that the only one way out from the current political crisis is the return of legally appointed officers of the CJB.

PRNJAVOR - In a skirmish between the parapolice loyal to RS president Biljana Plavsic and members of the RS Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) in the Tromedja check point, a policeman Simo Kecman, refugee from Drvar, was lightly wounded in his lower leg. The incident occurred after parapolice forcibly took over the CJB building in Prnjavor.

BRCKO - The representatives of the Brod, Brodusa and Stari Rasadnik communities asked that state top-officials visit Brcko otherwise they would go to Pale to protest continued provocations by SFOR-protected Muslim returnees. After verbal confrontations between Muslim returnees and Serb residents, a meeting between the Brcko mayor Miodrag Pajic and the international supervisor Robert Farrand, was followed by a new meeting between Brcko residents, officials and representatives of the RS Ministry for Refugees and displaced persons.

BIJELJINA - The lecturing in the MUP Secondary and High School in Doboj would start on October 1, announced the RS MUP, and said that students who did not finish their schooling would not get certificates and diplomas and would not be able to get job in the MUP.

VUKOVAR - The representative of the Joint Committee of the Municipalities of the Srem-Baranja District (SBO), Milos Vujanovic, and representative of the Independent Democratic Serbian Party, Vojislav Stanimirovic, sharply condemned the incident which happened on Saturday, September 20, when the Serbian flag was thrown away from the stage of the Culture Club in Ilok during the "Ilok Grape Picking" manifestation. In a letter of protest forwarded to the UN transitional administrator William Walker, Vojinovic and Stanimirovic expressed their distaste with the behaviour of the Croatian performers who, upon the end of their programme in the manifestation, sang nationalistic songs offending the serbs.

VUKOVAR - The conclusion from the meeting of the Council of the Joint Committee of SBO Municipalities, held in Vukovar, was that the present problems in the sectors of information, health and welfare, reconstruction and development, economy and the status of refugees, have been provoked by the Croatian party, which failed to abide by reached deals and agreements. The Committee decided to initial a soon meeting with UNTAES and UNHCR representatives and Croatian Government Office for Refugees in a bid to find a solution towards an equal treatment of all citizens of the Republic of Croatia regardless of their nationality.
