NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

ZURICH - On the occasion of a traditional New Year's action of collecting aid for the war orphans in Republika Srpska and FR Yugoslavia, which is organised by a Srpska and a Greek Orthodox Churches, their Royal Highness, the hair to the throne, Alexander Karadjordjevic, and his wife, princess Jelisaveta, visited Zurich. On this occasion, the Greek Metropolitan, Damaskinus, and His Eminence Bishop of the Middle-European, Mr. Konstantin, held a holy archpriest rite.

AMSTERDAM - The Croatian army committed numerous crimes against the residents of the Republic of the Srpska Krajina (RSK) during the "Storm"operation. The largest massacre took place in Dvor-na-Uni where some 300 to 400 of soldiers and civilians were killed, reported the Dutch Radio- 5. On the basis of their own findings and the testimonies of numerous witnesses, the Dutch historians Yan Balast and Yan Blau noted that on August 7, 1995, the Croatian units opened fire at a long column of Serb refugees in the town of Dvor-na-Uni, killing 200 to 300 hundred of people, while some of them were killed in the vicinity of this town.

SARAJEVO - The Serbs from the RSK and Muslims from Sandzak who are presently living in the Dayton B&H will not be eligible to vote at the upcoming elections, stated OSCE spokesman, David Folli. "In order to have all of these refugees be eligible to vote, it is necessary that the Assembly of B&H - within the House of Representatives and House of People - adopts a new citizenship law", explained Folli at a press conference held in Serb Sarajevo.

PARIS - The OSCE Commission, led by Spanish premier Felipe Gonzales, recently established in Belgrade that "the opposition coalition in Serbia was a victim of the legal machination" and that "it provided impressive evidences about the electoral fraud", writes the French daily "Figaro". Further, the paper writes that this was the first and last meeting between Gonzales and Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic, for Milosevic did not like the way of working of the western observers.

SYDNEY - A meeting of support to the free will of the people expressed at demonstrations throughout Serbia against the partial annulment of the second round of elections, took place in front of the FR Yugoslavia Consulate in Sydney. The Serb national clubs from Australia did not took part at the meeting that passed rather quietly for they believe that there are no true people's leaders and protectors of the Serbian interests among the Belgrade demonstrations leaders.

BRUSSELS - The World Congress of the Serbs (SSS) backed the peaceful demonstrations throughout Serbia, but warned of the possibility of negative consequences in the event that the protesters continue to use the symbols of foreign and enemy countries, mainly. In a message forwarded to demonstrators, the SSS points at the possibility of provocations by the regime protesters.

SARAJEVO - At a press conference held in Lukavica, SFOR spokesman Yan Yospen, stated that the peace implementation force personnel mustered out on Saturday an illegal check-point of the police of the Croatian Council of Defence (HVO) some 15km NW of Krupa. As he said, this was the most outstanding occurrence in the past week which, as he said, passed rather quietly.

BANJALUKA - IPTF spokesman for the region West, Alun Roberts, confirmed in Banjaluka that "the mandate of the international police task force remains unchanged and includes control and observance over the professional work of the local police without any involvement and interference". At a regular new conference, Roberts pointed out that "IPTF personnel are neither authorised, nor will arrest indictees for the alleged war crimes, but they will also supervise the compliance with the provisions of human rights and freedoms in these areas".

BANJALUKA - Some 186,000 refugees and displaced persons and about 246,000 socially deprived persons are registered in Banjaluka, stated the secretary of the RS Red Cross Office in Banjaluka, Miroslav Djekic.

BANJALUKA - The ICRC announced that a campaign of collecting data on missing persons continues for the next three months. The communique says that the number of registered applications in the ICRC Office in Sarajevo increased from less than 100 to more than 450 weekly within the campaign that was successfully completed in the middle of December.

PRIJEDOR - A group of 40 Muslim civilians from F B&H visited the communities of Han-Barine and Biscani in the Municipality of Prijedor. Muslims who were driving in a bus crossed from Sanski Most to the RS territory in order to, as was explained, pay a visit to the cemeteries.
