SRNA REVIEW OF EVENING NEWS, April 29, 1996

Srpska Republica News Agency (SRNA) Directory

From: Mirjana Petrovic <[email protected]>

MOSCOW - A great Serbian, distinguished poet who took the lead in an heroic struggle for "Holy Cros and Golden Freedom" - are the most often attributes which the Russians place with the name of Dr Radovan Karadzic, the president of Republika Srpska (RS). This was emphasised in a speech during the ceremony at which the St. Andrey Prvozvani Found for the Slavonic Culture and Literacy decorated Dr Radovan Karadzic. Yesterday in Moscow the RS foreign mistier Aleksa Buha received the St. Andrey Prvozvani Decoration in the name of the RS president.

SARAJEVO - The president of the RS National Assembly, Momci lo Krajisnik, talked in Pale with the high representative of the international community for B-H, Carl Bildt on the realisation of the Dayton agreement. Bildt said that they discussed the inci dents which took place along the RS border, and that talks will continue at government level tomorrow in his office. While stressing that the RS will implement and adhere to all agreed to in Dayton, the president of the RS National Assembly stated that "some matters should not be politicised"."Freedom of movement - being furthered these days - represents a misuse of the terms of the Dayton agreement, so we are afraid that it can lead us into escalation of the conflict", stated Krajisnik, assessing that, if it comes to new incidents, peace would be difficult to maintain and confidence to rebuild.

SARAJEVO - Deputy RS prime minister Velibor Ostojic talked in Pale with the US ambassador to Sarajevo, John Menzies about the civilian aspect of the Dayton agreement, with a special emphasis given the issue of freedom of movement. "The central subjects of the Dayton agreement are being misused for the sake of political manipulation with the residents, which is not what stands on the Dayton paper", stated Ostojic after the meeting, and warned that incidents might hamper the implementation of the peace agreement.

DOBOJ - One serb was killed during the incident near Sjenina Rijeka, NE of Doboj, while Muslim civilians attempted to enter the RS, passing by the IFOR check point. The IFOR Information Service in Doboj said that two Muslims were killed. The unregu lated Muslim crossings provoked a bitter reaction by the Serb residents and caused the death and wounding of "a certain number of individuals" in the mine field.

PRIJEDOR - Dr Aleksandar Bereta, president of the Prijedor Municipal Board of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) stated today that "unannounced Muslim entries into Republika Srpska (RS) represent a political action to which the Serbian people is firmly opposed". "We found out that Muslim groups include terror ists, so their entry into our territory must be prevented", explained Bereta.

BANJALUKA - The vicepresident of the Socialist Party for RS, Zivko Radisic, most sharply condemned the frequent attempts of the Muslims to reach Serb territory. "We all see in this a serious threat to peace and a direct breach of the Dayton agree ment, for it is about an organised activity, backed by some international forces which are not even aware how this might endanger the peace process".

SARAJEVO - When one is said that he does not care for some thing at all, the phrase he usually used is: "He passes by like he passes by the Turkish graveyard". It is so not without a reason. The Muslims have always burying their dead immediately after death, and the ritual is by itself very short and simple. The main massage is: "Shall we forgive the late?" - writes SRNA's commentary by Jovica Ajvazovic, titled "Izetbegovic's Manipula tions with Dead".

SOKOLAC - The OSCE Mission chief in the former B-H Robert Frowick considers that fears that "direct voting" will enable electoral manipulations as justified. He said that his organisa tion "will send its experts to count votes". At today's press conference in Sokolac, Frowick admitted that the international community is not able to guarantee the security to the Serb Sarajevans who decide to vote directly in communities they lived before the war.

LONDON - The RS prime minister Rajko Kasagic stated in London at the Conference on Reconstruction of the Former B-H that he is "confident that the international community will aid the RS for its isolation would have adverse consequences for European relations". According to Kasagic, "Issues of transfer of civil ians across the border and the mutual cutting off electricity supplies are impeding the course of reconstruction".

ZENICA - There are still Mujaheddin in central Bosnia, and a proof to this claim are members of the "El Mujahid" unit of the Muslim Army, stationed in the Zenica suburb Podbrezje, reports Croat Radio HerzegBosnia. According to the Coordination Board of the Zenica Refugees, based in Vitez, "members of this unit turned a private household into a fortification".
