  • [01] DRAGAN TOMIC CONVENES THE SECOND EXTRAORDINARY SESSION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF SERBIA FOR JUNE 30, 1997

    President (Speaker) of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Dragan Tomic, convened the second extraordinary session of the National Assembly, to debate, among other legal acts, the Draft Law on Local Self- Government tabled by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, reads the communique of the information service of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

    National deputies at this session will have the occasion for the first time after several decades, to debate and adopt the law which through a modern, comprehensive and harmonized system, regulates the local self-government in our republic. The proposed legislative solutions are a synthesis of our positive heritage and of the contemporary trends in the world.

    [02] MARSHLANDS ZASAVICA - A SPECIAL NATURAL RESERVE OF THE FIRST CATEGORY

    Government of the Republic of Serbia has recently and at the proposal of the Institute for Nature Protection of Serbia, proclaimed the marshlands Zasavica a special natural reserve of the first category. In this way Zasavica became a natural wealth of extreme importance for the Republic.

    "Government of the Republic of Serbia is supporting the citizens initiatives like the one about Zasavica", says the Republican Minister for Environment Protection Dr. Jordan Aleksic, and underlines that in a very short time the future of this natural wealth was clearly designed. "We will not have to make zoological-gardens in future in order to show the preserved species, because we have Zasavica with its unprecedented riches", states Aleksic.

    Marshlands Zasavica is some 33 kilometers long, and has the widths of an average of 80 meters, created due to the change in the river bed of the Sava river, where in its midst extremely rich flora and fauna were born. Until now over 230 species and varieties of algae were discovered, detected some 200 plant varieties, in the water recorded 19 varieties of fish, 17 varieties of amphibians and reptiles and 120 varieties of birds, from them 18 belonging to the endangered species.

    [03] CONSTRUCTIVE COOPERATION BETWEEN YUGOSLAVIA AND MACEDONIA

    Minister of Education, Prof.Dr. Jovo Todorovic, received the delegations of the Federal Board of Trade Unions of Education, Sciences and Culture of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Trade Unions of Education, Sciences and Culture of the Republic of Macedonia, headed by the presidents of trade unions, Prof.Dr. Radojka Kocijancic and Aco Jankulovski.

    In the exchange of opinions and experiences, it was mutually stated that there is a constructive cooperation between the trade unions and state authorities of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and Macedonia.

    [04] THE FIRST PRESS CONFERENCE OF THE REPUBLICAN MINISTER FOR FAMILY CARE

    Priority tasks of the Ministry for Family Care of the Republic of Serbia in the year 1997 will be, further to the provision of a more regular payment of all the money dues in the system of the social care for children, also elaboration of a system of measures of the population policies, determination of the program for family planning and openness of the Ministry for cooperation with all the institutions, non-governmental organizations and other associations engaged in the promotion of quality of the family life. This was stated yesterday by Minister Bratislava Morina, at the first press conference of this Ministry in the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

    Minister Morina informed the press also of the initiatives of the Council for Population, Family and Children of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, to extend the scope of work of this Ministry and that it be called in future the Ministry for Population, Family and Children.

    Underlining the respect for family, as the basic human community, and providing of the social security as the most important targets of the social care for family, Minister Morina recalled that this Ministry was actually established because the social crisis of the past years has endangered the status of the family, brought about its poverty, increased the number of children with asocial behavior and those looking for the solution of the real life problems in the use of drugs and alcohol or in joining the religious sects.

    [05] CUBA INTERESTED IN COOPERATION IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

    Minister of Civil Engineering in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Prof.Dr. Branislav Ivkovic, received today the Ambassador of Cuba, Mr. Omar Medina Quintero, at his request, on the eve of the departure of the delegation of the construction company "Ivan Milutinovic" to Cuba, for concrete business agreements.

    Ambassador Quintero conveyed to Minister Ivkovic the official stand of the Cuban Government about a great interest for continuation and extension of the cooperation in this field, which at present, would represent also a symbolic beginning of its renewal, which in turn for a long number of years had its fruitful development in all the fields. Ambassador Quintero took this opportunity to underline extreme respect which exists in the world and in Cuba for our civil engineering and Cuban positive experiences in the application of our IMS prefabricated systems.

    It was agreed that in August this year a meeting is to be scheduled at the ministerial level either in Cuba or in Belgrade, when a complete program of concrete cooperation would be specified in the field of civil engineering between Cuba and the Republic of Serbia.

    [06] SUCCESSFUL COOPERATION BETWEEN RUSSIAN AND OUR SCIENTISTS

    Minister of Science and Technology of the Republic of Serbia, academician Dusan Kanazir, received today in the Government of Serbia, the delegation of the Russian Academy of Sociological Sciences, headed by its president, academician Genady Osipov.

    During the talks, it was jointly stated that the cooperation between Russian and our scientists is successfully taking place in all the fields, and especially in social sciences. Special attention was focused by the sociologists of the Russian Federation and of our country on the research of the socio-political trends in the two countries and their influence on further social and economic development.

    Academician Kanazir informed the distinguished guests from the Russian Federation about the strategy and directions of our scientific policies, scientific youth and measures undertaken by the Government of the Republic of Serbia in the field of implementation of the policy of scientific and technological development and linking of our science with the world.

    Russian academicians gave a positive view of the past cooperation with out scientific experts, pointing out that the latest joint scientific ventures in the fields of humanistic and social sciences are showing that there is forthcoming an even more fruitful and more active cooperation between the scientists of the two countries.

    Russian academicians of sociological sciences are visiting Belgrade in the capacity of members of the Executive Bureau of the International Center for Slavic Sociological and Political Research and the presidents of this Center are academician Genady Osipov from the Russian side and academician Mira Markovic from the Yugoslav side. During their stay in Belgrade, a round table will he held with the topic "Comparative Sociological Analysis of the Contemporary Social and Political Situation in Yugoslavia and in Russia", where further to the distinguished scientists from the Russian Federation, also our affirmed sociologists will take part. Furthermore, a presentation will be held of the Russian-Yugoslav magazine "Entrepreneurship, Politics and Science".

    In the talks with the Russian academicians in the Government of Serbia have also taken part academician Mira Markovic, academician Kosta Mihajlovic and Hadzi Dragan Antic.

    [07] GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA IN SESSION

    Government of the Republic of Serbia at its session yesterday, chaired by Mirko Marjanovic, adopted the conclusions on the implementation of the Decree on special conditions governing the trade of agricultural machinery and agricultural equipment, determining in more detail mutual relations between the Republican Directorate for Commodities Reserves and the buyers. The list was also given of the enterprises per counties authorized for barter exchange.

    Government gave its approval for the program of work and financial plan of the Republican Institute for Labor Market. Government gave its agreement also on the program of work of the Republican Fund for Pension and Invalidity Insurance of Farmers.

    At today's session of the Government, a request was submitted to the National Assembly of Serbia to convene the second extraordinary session in the year 1997. Government is proposing for the agenda of the session the debate on draft proposals of the laws which are already in the procedure.

    [08] DELEGATION OF THE BRITISH HSBC CORPORATION VISITS GOVERNMENT OF SERBIA

    Minister for the Ownership Transformation Milan Beko, received yesterday in the Government of Serbia the delegation of the HSBC, British international financial corporation, Mr. John Sliman and Mr. Gavin Rayan.

    During the talks there was a discussion about the processes of the ownership transformation in our country and the possibilities for this distinguished association to engage itself in these processes, either as an affirmed consultants firm, or through some various forms of banking arrangements.
