[01] DEVELOPMENT OF ECONOMIC COOPERATION BETWEEN BELGIUM AND YUGOSLAVIA
There are real chances for a comprehensive
development of economic cooperation between the Federal Republic
of Yugoslavia and Belgium, said yesterday the Ambassador and
Director General for Foreign Trade Relations in the Belgian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Marie Noarfals, during the
visit of the Belgian governmental and economic delegation to the
Government of the Republic of Serbia. The the delegation, joined
also by the charge d'affaires of the Belgian embassy in Belgrade
Jean Matis, was received by the Minister Coordinator Dragan
Tomic, Minister of Industry Oskar Fodor and Minister for Private
Entrepreneurship Radoje Djukic. Guests were informed of the
development and plansfor our economic recovery and expectation
that the economic cooperation with Belgium will experience in
future manifold increase. (Politika, February 27, 1996)
[02] YELTSIN CONSIDERING LIFTING SANCTIONS ON YUGOSLAVIA
Russian President Boris Yeltsin "is seriously considering lifting of
sanctions against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia", said
yesterday the spokesman of the head of state Sergey Medvedov for
the Interfaks news agency. Russia is of the view that
continuation of sanctions against the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia may have negative influence on the economic recovery
of the country and its reintegration in the European
organizations, added Medvedev. (Politika, February 27, 1996)
[03] SANCTION ON THE REPUBLIC OF SRPSKA SUSPENDED
The UN Security Council last night decided to suspend sanctions against the
Republic of Srpska. This means that the promises made by the
U.S. negotiating team and Contract Group member-countries to the
President of Serbia Slobodan Milosevic during their recent
meeting in Rome, were fulfilled. Yugoslav policy of peace in
this way has obtained yet another confirmation and has enabled
the process of full stabilization and international affirmation
of the Republic of Srpska. Suspension of sanctions against Serbs
in Bosnia will come into force 24 hours after the session of the
Council. (Politika, February 27, 1996)
[04] EXODUS OF SERBS RESEMBLES ETHNIC CLEANSING
Sarajevo with Serbian suburbs was the main test in the implementation
of the Dayton agreement on Bosnia, commented yesterday the Geneva
diplomatic circles, who are on the basis of latest information with a
lot of reserve and very little optimism assessing the future of the
single Bosnian state. Everyone agrees that the exodus of Serbs from
Sarajevo suburbs is "a tragic event" which is more and more being
identified with "ethnic cleansing". Although the main blame, by
inertia, is being placed on the leadership of the Republic of Srpska
the analysts can not but see that there is responsibility of the
Muslim authorities in Sarajevo which have done nothing to eliminate
the anxiety of Serbs. Furthermore, the tragic convoys of Serbs
leaving Vogosca and other Sarajevo suburbs, are being stoned and
harassed by the Muslims themselves. A special chapter in this new
tragedy of Serbs is the behavior of the IFOR which, many agree in
Geneva, in fact is helping Serbian exodus from Sarajevo. In some
circles it is even stated that all this is yet another new and dirty
game. Because Serbs have left behind them tens of thousands of
apartments and houses in Sarajevo suburbs, in which without any
problem Muslim refugees from Western Europe can now move in, those
that Europe wants to be rid off quickly. (Borba, February 27, 1996)
[05] MORE GUARANTEES FOR SERBS
"The present exodus of Serbs is leading towards an ethnic
division. This trend must be sped", stated Carl Bildt at the
press conference in Brussels. Muslim government, according to
Bildt, "must undertake measures in order to guarantee to Serbs a
safe stay", and those who have left should be encouraged to
return. On this occasion, he has condemned the latest
developments in Sarajevo and a violent behavior of policemen of
the Federation, which has, as he said, helped create even more
an atmosphere of insecurity among the Sarajevo Serbs. Events in
Sarajevo, according to Bildt, are the main obstacle to the peace
process in Bosnia, but not less adverse are the events in
Mostar, where Croats are opposed to the unification of this
city. (Borba, February 27, 1996)
[06] BARRICADES AGAIN IN THE FEDERATION
Muslim police units have completely blocked the Croat local
community of Dastansko in the county of Vares, reported
yesterday the Croat Radio Herzeg-Bosnia. President of the
Muslim-Croat Federation Kresimir Zubak has submitted an urgent
request to the IFOR Commander Leighton Smit and the high envoy
of the EU Carl Bildt to help immediately in de-blocking of this
"Croat historical lands". At the same time, according to the
reports of the Muslim Radio Sarajevo, units of the Croat Defense
Council have blocked five Muslim local communities in the county
of Vitez. (Politika, February 27, 1996)
[07] 'FASCIST-BOLSHEVIK' OF MAFIA INCLINATIONS
Democratic Croat General Alliance (DEHOS), an organization active in
the Croat diaspora in Germany and Austria, has sent an open letter to
the Croat public, in reply to the accusations by Franjo Tudjman that
the opposition is uniting its ranks in order to overthrow the present
authorities. In the open letter it is explained why the diaspora is
considering Tudjman and his movement as a Fascist-Bolshevik concoction
of the Sicilian mafia inclinations. "Because racism is Fascist,
because your defense minister is raising his hand in Fascist salute,
because you are seizing territories of the neighboring states, because
you have allowed opening of the concentration camps during the time of
war with Bosniacs, because you have abolished the Square of Victims of
Fascism and introduced National Security Office, 'kuna' currency and
spies. And you are a Bolshevik by origin and education, and this is
how you have organized both your party and the state. All this
paraphernalia can not hide a vintage Stalinist", reads the letter to
Tudjman. (Politika, February 27, 1996)
[08] KILLER OF 'SUSPICIOUS' OLD WOMEN ACQUITTED
Croat judiciary did not betray its 'tradition'. The unpunished killers
of the Zagreb Zec family, assassins who have committed mass
liquidation of Serbs in Gospic and the Pakrac Plain, many of whom have
in the meantime been promoted, decorated and rewarded, last week were
joined by Zeljko Sunjerga, officer of the Croat Army, indicted for the
crime over Serbian civilians after Tudjman's aggression on Krajina.
The trial against him before the court in Zadar, which the state media
were announcing as "confirmation of the determination of Croatia to
bring to the face of justice murderers, plunderers and other criminals
in the devastated Krajina" - was adjourned by acquittal. Sunjerga was
indicted for having from the close range and with automatic weapon
killed the 80 years old Manda Tisma in the village of Rudele. After
hearing of only one witness, the court ruled that Sunjerga used
"Kalashnikow" in self-defense. It was determined, said the judge in
his elaboration, that the old woman during the talk with the
defendant, placed her hand under the apron, which is the proof that
Sunjerga fired in self-defence and that there is no evidence of a
premeditated murder with malicious intent, motivated by national
hatred. Zadar judicial farce will probably enter the archives of the
international law, and judging by all the facts, in the forthcoming
"seances of polishing state consciousness" it is to be expected that
such similar acquittals will be forthcoming for many criminals.

[09] THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON URGENT SURGERY
Organization of the first international scientific and
professional conference, entrusted after the suspension of
sanctions to our physicians, will gather in early September in
Belgrade a number of the European and our experts in urgent
surgery. The decision of the Board of Directors of the European
Association of Urgent Surgery to appoint us the hosts and
organizers of the First International Professional Conference in
the field of urgent surgery, is a great recognition to our
experts, said the president of the organizational committee of
the First International Conference on Urgent Surgery, Dr. Vaso
Antunovic. (Politika ekspres, February 27, 1996)
