  • [01] Central Electoral Bureau approves new candidacies to the presidency of Romania

    Petre Roman on behalf of the Democratic Party of Romania is running, Gyorgy Frunda representing the Union of Democratic Magyars of Romania is also running as well as Corneliu Vadim Tudor, on behalf of the Greater Romania Party. The Central Electoral Bureau said all conditions were met by the candidates so that they add to the runners that were already checked in namely Theodor Stolojan on behalf of the National Liberal Party, Mugur Isarescu, incumbent Prime Minister as an independent and Ion Iliescu on behalf of the Social Democracy Party of Romania. Marian Munteanu on behalf of the National Alliance has withdrawn from the race as he considered the backing party did not support the younger candidates in the Parliamentary race. Also running is senior attorney at law Nicolae Cerveni on behalf of his party which is the Free Democratic Romanian Party.

    [02] The programme of the Cabinet of Romania of restructuring steel industry and metallurgy is in accordance with the programmes of the World Bank.

    Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu said that the programme of restructuring the steel industry of Romania is in accordance with the programmes of the World Bank and Romania has paid important sums of money so that these programmes are implemented, hence, any delay is detrimental to the national economy.

    [03] Statement of Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu about the Cabinet relations with the International Monetary Fund

    Mr. Isarescu said that until the meeting of the Board of the IMF in November the Executive has the chance to solve a number of problems. With the exception of arrears and the increase of salaries of a number of state owned companies Mr. Isarescu was of the opinion that the Government of Romania solved all problems and met all conditions that were advanced by the stand-by accord with the IMF.

    [04] Imre Nagy was commemorated at Snagov near Bucharest

    The victims of the Hungarian revolution of 1956 and of the struggle and fight for freedom were commemorated at Snagov near Bucharest as well. It was there that in 1956 Imre Nagy, the martyr Prime Minister was kept in jail after the Revolution of Budapest of 1956 had been stifled in blood. A wreath of flowers was put at the memorial of the martyr. The Hungarian Cabinet was represented by the Ambassador of Hungary to Romania.

    [05] Romanian - Hungarian sympozium at Targu Mures

    The Romanian Justice minister has organized at Targu Mures the fifth Romanian - Hungarian seminar on the theme of legal cooperation between the two countries represented by the Justice Ministries of Romania and Hungary. The specific theme of the seminar was EFFECTS OF JURISPRUDENCE OF THE EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS ON THE LEGISLATION AND PRACTICE OF OUR TWO COUNTRIES. In his opening speech the justice minister of Romania said that the organization of this seminar is a token of the joint will of the two states to build a joint legal system able to satisfy the interests of both countries and which is compatible with that of the European Union. In her turn the Hungarian minister of justice Ibolya David said that it was important for Hungary to cooperate with our country in all matters that concern adherence to the European Union.

    [06] Meetings and talks of the Dutch justice minister now on a visit to Romania

    The Dutch minister of justice who is now on a visit to Romania has had talks with the Romanian President of the Supreme Court of Justice and with the general prosecutor of the country, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.

    The President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, attends the informal meeting of the states that are members of the SEECP - the process of Cooperation in South East Europe - which is taking place at Skopje in Macedonia.

    The Senate of Romania hosts the hearing on the privatization of ROMTELECOM.

    The Prime Minister of Romania meets with the representatives of all companies that supply heat and hot household water as there are several areas of Romania where blocks and flats do not get what it is supposed to be given by these companies in the form of heat and hot water for household purposes.

    Brussels hosts the meeting of the Security Committee of NATO ( 19 + 1 ) with Romania as a guest. The stage is reviewed of the legislation of this country, organization and progress in as far as security of information is concerned. The delegation of Romania is led by secretary of state with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, who is also the Chairman of the recently set up National Security Authority.

    Minister of Justice Valeriu Stoica is at Miercurea Ciuc to attend the inauguration of the new residence of the Court of Justice of county Harghita.

    The Day of the Romanian Army occasions a religious and military ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier here in Bucharest. All over Romania there are ceremonies commemorating the heroes of the homeland and praising the valor of the military of Romania.

    Hungary hosts activities and commemorations of the Romanian army heroes. Today the cemetery of the Romanian army heroes of Budapest hosts a military and a religious ceremony.

    The Foundation PIATA UNIVERSITATII and the Organization KNIGHTS OF KING MICHAEL are hosting a meeting on the occasion of the birthday anniversary of King Mihai of Romania both here in Bucharest and at Timisoara.
