  • [01] Press conference of the Prime Minister of Romania, Mugur Isarescu

    The Prime Minister of Romania presented the economic situation of the country at a press conference, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. He said that the relaunching of the economic activity of the country was a certitude and that would be felt gradually in the living standards of the population although the effects will be felt after a while. The Prime Minister also underlined that the Cabinet must not give in before certain pressures which are specific to the electoral year in Romania in order to safeguard economic relaunching. Mr. Isarescu mentioned that inflation will grow well above 27 per cent and will reach about 40 per cent at the end of the year as this is caused by the drought, the lei - USD ratio and the price of oil which already affected the other European countries, in the West and in the East.

    In as far as announcing his candidacy for the Presidency of Romania Mr. Isarescu declared that all would come in good time as there still are several weeks untill the electoral campaign starts.

    [02] PNTCD - Christian Democratic National Peasants Party - supports supplimentary budget for the Health Ministry

    PNTCD agrees with the request of the National Health House for more money, more exactly 400 thousand million lei from the Ministry of Finance which are necessary for the good unfolding of the medical activity. This is the statement of the secretary general of PNTCD Remus Opris quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. More than this PNTCD supports the innitiative according to which the Ministry of Health receives 150 thousand million more from the State Budget. The money comes from the special fund for health.

    [03] Communique of PDSR - Social Democracy Party of Romania

    This party is of the opinion that the system of public health of Romania risks to collapse - reads a communique of the afore mentioned party following the cut worth 30 thousand million lei of the recently altered budget. In fact all the movement and actions demanding more money are a follow up of the fact that the Health House does not work.

    [04] The Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation invites political parties to have their share during the electoral campaign

    In a letter to the Standing Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION suggests that during the electoral campaign for parliamentary elections, political parties that have lists in at least eight constituencies should have free access to the special electoral programmes of the regional radio stations. The leadership of the Chamber of Deputies has agreed with the proposal and it will be debated during the joint session of both chambers on Wednesday.

    [05] Press conference of the Romanian minister of national education Andrei Marga

    Andrei Marga said in the town of Cluj-Napoca during a press conference that the entire education system must be rebuilt on the basis of a social partnership which should become the natural way of action of the education structure. The National Education Minister also said that the World Bank is financing two projects of national interest regarding the rehabilitation of education in the villages of this country as well as its relaunching in the less favored areas of Romania.

    [06] Yearly debates of the International Monetary Fund and of the World Bank

    In Prague the debates continue of the International Monetary Fund and of the World Bank. According to RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI, the IMF specified that it aimed at reducing poverty and stimulating economic increase, these aims being essential for the good work of the institution: at the same time the World Bank is organizing a conference on the financial difficulties of the poor countries. Minister of Finance of Romania, Decebal Traian Remes who is in Prague in an attempt to persuade IMF to unblock second instalment of the stand-by agreement loan to Romania, told our reporter that he was confident our country would receive the loan due according to the stand-by agreement.

    In another development, the Romanian Development Bank - Societe Generale group was designated as the best bank of Romania by the Euro Money Publication.

    [07] Address of Chamber of Deputiest vice-chairman Adrian Nastase

    Adrian Nastase is now in Prague at the invitation of Michel Tilmant, president of the Executive Committee of ING Bank. In this capacity Mr. Nastase is attending the annual meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund and he was the key speaker at a session devoted to INTEGRATION OF FINANCIAL MARKETS OF EUROPE - SOCIAL SECURITY AND PENSION SYSTEM with the address entitled THE DYNAMICS OF THE POLICY OF THE REFORM OF THE SYSTEM OF PENSIONS IN ROMANIA. Mr. Nastase said that of utmost importance was the creation of a modern system of social security that would be of a nature to cut down the number of persons that live in poverty. In the context Mr. Nastase mentioned the main provisions of the new pension system of Romania.

    [08] Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs about treatment of Romanian citizens by Yugoslavia

    Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs transmits in a communique that Yugoslav border authorities apply to Romanian citizens blamable treatment like refusal to pass through customs, noting passports with negative signs, abuses and suspicion being the order of the day and even refusal to let media and PRO DEMOCRATIA representatives enter the country. Romanian Foreign Ministry voices dissaproval at this attitude of Yugoslav border officials.

    Special session of the Romanian government, in the afternoon.

    The President of the Democrat Party - Petre Roman - is paying a visit to counties Arad and Timis.

    Meeting of the Brasov trade union members working with Roman SA and Tractorul plants with the State Minister Mircea Ciumara, at the seat of the Romanian Cabinet in the afternoon.

    The mayor of the town of Cluj - Napoca, Gheorghe Funar, was invited to attend the international conference of Friendship among towns, CHINA 2000, which is unfolding in Beijing in the interval 26 - 30 September.

    A delegation of European experts are paying a visit to Romania in the interval 26 - 29 September; the members of the delegation are meeting representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania and of Bucharest. The visit is part of the PHARE PROGRAMME.

    The President of the National Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation, university professor Lany Szabolcs, holds a press conference on the theme RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION - priorities for the national strategy of economic development of Romania on a medium term.

    The National Council of Small and Medium Sized Companies organizes a meeting among Romanian and Indonesian businessmen; a protocol of collaboration will be signed between the Romanian Council and the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Middle Sized Companies of Indonesia.

    Press Conference occasioned by the first exhibition TRUCK SHOW AND ACCESSORIES 2000 at ROMAERO BANEASA. The Press conference takes place at Uzinexport Business Center, at ON TOP OF BUCHAREST HALL. The conference is followed by a cocktail.

    The exhibition of stomatology equipment and materials EXPODENT 2000 at Sala Palatului.

    RADIO LIBERTY MIX invites all those interested to attend the official launching of the radio station MIX FM BUCHAREST 100.6 FM at the Restaurant of the Military Circle. This marks a year since RADIO EUROPA LIBERA Radio Free Europe has been broadcasting on the frequencies MIX FM.

    At Neptun, on the Black Sea Coast of Romania, the seventh international workshop takes place, on the theme "NEW BIOPHYSICAL METHODS applied in biology and medicine" being organized by the Romanian Cultural Foundation in collaboration with the Romanian Society of Pure and Applied Biophysics, the French Society of Biophysics and the International Council of Scientists of Romania under the coordination of professor Academician Gheorghe D. Mateescu from Case Western Reserve Society of Cleveland, the United States.

    In the town of Cluj - Napoca the first edition of the Theater Shows of minorities is being organized by the Ministry of Culture of Romania and the Insititute for the History and the Ethnoculture of the Danube Swabians living in Germany. Shows are being presented in Romania, Germany, Hungary and Italy.

    The conference BRAZIL AND ROMANIA - dialog of Latin cultures by professor Candido Mendes secretary general of the Academy of Latinity, rector of the University CANDIDO MENDES of Rio de Janeiro. The conference takes place at the Romanian Cultural Foundation.
