  • [01] Mugur Isarescu is the new Prime Minister designated by the President of Romania

Thursday night President Emil Constantinescu officially announced he designated Mugur Isarescu, Governor of the National Bank of Romania, to the position of Prime Minister. The decision was made after long and difficult consultations with the representatives of the political parties of the ruling coalition and with most of the parties in the opposition, including with the former President of the country. The designated Prime Minister and his team have to present to the Parliament of Romania the programme of the Isarescu Cabinet as well as the membership of the new Government by 20 December.
