[01] Romania will not take part in military actions on Yugoslav territory
The Romanian President Emil Constantinescu said on Wednesday evening that
it should be "very clear that Romania will take part in no military actions
on territory of the Federal Yugoslav Republic. Romania did not and will not
provide fighting troops". RADOR, March 25
[02] The Alliance shows concern over security of Romania
The Romanian Prime-Minister received a letter from the Secretary General of
the North Atlantic Alliance Javier Solana on Wednesday morning. The latter
says: "Dear Mr. Prime-Minister, following my letter date October 13, 1998,
I would like to stress that it would be unacceptable the Federal Yugoslav
Republic to put in any danger the territorial integrity, political
independence and security of your country. I also wish to reiterate that
the Alliance will regard seriously any attack by the Federal Yugoslav
Republic against your country. The Alliance has made known many times that
security of all NATO member states is directly linked to the security of
all partner countries and you security is a direct and material concern to
the Alliance". RADOR, March 25
[03] Measures taken by the Romanian Army's General Staff
Considering the situation in Kosovo the Romanian Army's General Staff has
ordered all necessary measures aimed to prevent a surprise attack and to
prepare all forces that should act in case of a negative development -
General Constantin Degeratu has said. He has added that they have also
ordered getting the Romanian SFOR contingent ready as developmnents in
Kosovo might cause negative developments in Bosnia-Herzegovina also. RADOR,

[04] Provision of minimum confort for eventual refugiees from Yugoslavia
The Prefect of the Timis district Dumnitru Gant said in a short statement
to the press on Wednesday afternoon that a special body was created within
the Timis district administration aimed to ensure minimum confort for the
eventual refugiees following by the NATO intervention in Yugoslavia. RADOR,

[05] American military delegation in Romania
The Vice-Speaker of the Romanian Senate Mircea Ionescu-Quintus has met a
delegation of American military experts accompanied by the US Ambassador to
Romania James Rosapepe. The delegation has proposed to the7 Romanian part a
programme on improving training and organization of the Romanian army in
order for it to meet the standards required by NATO. According to Mr
Quintus, the delegation is due to come back to Romanian in mid-April to
sign the agreement over implementing this programme. "The US Government and
Army are counting on the partnership with Romania and its Army. We haven't
talked about any Kosovo related issue", he said. RADOR, March 25
[06] Trade union protests
The joint protest by four union groups (CNSLR, Cartel Alfa, the National
Trade Union Block and CSDR). Union leaders speaking to the protesting union
members have denounced the present low living standards, the lack of jobs,
of social protection and economic restructuring program along with the lack
of real reforms. Local branches of the four union groups have also set up
protests in the cities of Timisoara, Suceava, Alba Iulia, Piatra Neamt,
Focsani, Galati, Constanta, Slatina, Buzau, Sfantu Gheorghe, Oradea, Sibiu,
Bistrita Nasaud, Targu jiu and Baia Mare. RADOR, March 25
[07] Seminar for Romanian importers
The US ambassador to Romania James Rosapepe has opened the seminar
organized for the Romanian importers of American farming products. The
seminar is aimed to inform Romanian importers on the programs of export
credits guaranteed by the US Agriculture Department. Mr Rosapepe has
stressed the importance of developing the private farming sector and and
the special importance of this sector in the bilateral economic relations.
teh seminar is attended by experts from the US Agriculture Department,
Romanian importers and representatives of several banks interested in
taking part in these programs. Seminars like this one are due to be set up
in other Romanian cities in the next several days. RADOR, March 25
[08] Bank of China to open a deposit at the National Bank of Romania
The National Bank of Romania (NRB) has announced that the Bank of China is
due to open a deposit at the Romanian bank. It is about a 100 million US
dollar deposit on a year period. The move was negotiated as part of the co-
operation relations between Romania and China. It is not the first time tat
Romania gets such a facility from China. RADOR, March 25
