A communique issued by the Romanian Presidency said President Constantinescu was expected to meet the leaders of the Social Democrat Union (USD) - a coalition including the PD along with the Romanian Social Democrat Party (PSDR) - but PSDR leader Sergiu Cunescu told the RRA he did not receive any invitation to the meeting. Both parties have however admitted that, for the time being, their initiative did not get the support of other opposition parties. RADOR

[03] Ion Iliescu claims the ruling parties surrender to UDMR blackmail

At a press conference on Tuesday, the president of the Party of Social Democracy in Romania (PDSR), Ion Iliescu, said the ruling parties and President Constantinescu surrendered to the UDMR blackmail and they were using any subterfuge to find a legal motivation to the UDMR demand of a Hungarian language teaching state university. The main opposition party leader has mentioned the internal and external pressure in support of the double citizenship for Hungarians living in Romania and the authonomy and self-ruling on ethnic criteria as threats to Romania's integrity. He called on those resposible to carefully examine the situation and give a firm response to such anticonstitutional attitudes. RADOR

[04] Ticu Dumitrescu Bill again under PNTCD focus

The MP group representing the ruling Christian Democrat National Peasant Party (PNTCD) in Romania's House of Deputies hold talks on Tuesday with their party colleagues in the commissions for defence and legal affairs. Discussions focused on issues concerning the Ticu Dumitrescu's legal initiative allowing access to former Securitate files. Vicepresident Sorin Lepsa was the only PNTCD representative attending the meeting. He said the PNTCD MP group in the House of Deputies expressed its full support of the law to be adopted as soon as possible. Mr Lepsa said he would ask the Permanent Bureau to allow the two commissions hold talks over the project twice a week. RADOR

[07] Armenian MP delegation on a visit to Bucharest

Romanian commissioners for foreign affairs in the Romanian Parliament had talks on Tuesday with a delegation of Armenia's National Assembly led by president Khosrov Kharoutiunyan. According to PNTCD senator George Achim, the Romanian officials have expressed their interest in the areas around the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea in Romania's attempt to become part of the Caucasian oil transport route. The Armenian MPs believe an improving cooperation in oil affairs is very important as they would like an oil pipe to connect Iran, Armenia and Georgia to a terminal in the Romanian port of Constantza. The Romanian and Armenian officials have praised the good relations between the two countries and the Armenian community's contribution to Romania's culture and spirituality . RADOR
