[01] Minister of national education's specifications concerning salaries of
staff from education field
Concerning news published by some newspapers according to which Minister of
National Education Andrei Marga would have announced imminence of a
significant increasing of salaries Press Office of Ministry of National
Education (MEN) specifies such a statement was not done. During a meeting
minister Andrei Marga has said in September 1998 new wage law is to come
into operation and it would bring a wage difference in education field
based on stipulations of Teaching Staff Statute. Maximum ceiling of wage is
situated much higher than now but reaching that ceiling is conditioned by
gathering budgetary and extra-budgetary resources by the respective
education unit. MEN pleads for raising this ceiling and for assuring
teaching is a very attractive profession MEN Press Office mentions. RADOR,

[02] Education for national minorities in attention of Minister Andrei
Marga
Minister of National Education Andrei Marga declared on Tuesday at Cluj
problems of minorities from Romania concerning education are to be solved
within the framework of global process of reform which are developing now.
Andrei Marga has declared all programmes of reform drawn up by Ministry of
National Education stipulate development of education for national
minorities. He has also affirmed at present at the whole country level
there are 2,540 school units in Hungarian language. RADOR, August 14

health social assurances
Minister of Health Hajdu Gabor proposes postponing of putting into practice
Law of health social assurances. That is why it was drawn up an amendment
project which proposes replacing of choosing for assurance houses with
direct appoinments from big trade union central offices and from

[04] Negotiations between association of employers and trade unions
concerning collective labour contract
On Thursday representatives of Association of employers and of trade union
confederacies negotiated collective labour contract at national level.
According to statements of vicepresident of Social Economic Council Marian
Milut minimum tariff rate for appointment will be 450,000 lei/170 hours of
work medium on a month and salary indexations will be directly correlated
with Government's bills and legislation on operation established by monthly
inflation index. Negotiations will be taken again next week and it is
expected final form of collective labour contract at national level to be
adopted at the beginning of September. RADOR, August 14
[05] Protest of AGROSTAR Federation
Leader of Trade-Union Federation AGROSTAR Elena Sporea has declaredprotest
action from customs points Curtici, Nadlac and Varsand was launched. She
has informed at Nadlac are concentrated very strong motorized forces
belonging especially to private persons from zone. Elena Sporea has also
declared there would not be blocked passengers trains but only goods trains
with produces from Hungary which make unfair competition to Romanian
producers. Action will last about 3-4 days "Is long as it is necessary"
AGROSTAR leader has added. "This action must not be authorized" Elena
Sporea has also said specifying Regional Administration of Arad county,
Police and SRI were announced in connection with this protest and so law
was not violated. Elena Sporea has specified it is about "more an action
for supporting producer for Romania to consume her produces and not to
support an unfair competition at customs". RADOR, August 14
[06] Protests of energeticians' unions are going on
Energeticians belonging to Energetica and Univers union federations have
continued to picket Romania's Government, RENEL and houses of Senate and
Romania presidents. On Thursday at Bucharest were present energeticians
from Arad, Giurgiu and Paroseni. RADOR, August 14
[07] Free union of navigators will organize a protest meeting
Because leadership of Maritime Navigation Company NAVROM did not respect
method of putting into practice Government Order nr.375 Free Union of
navigators has decided to organize on Saturday August 15 just on the
occasion of day of Romanian Sea Service and on Monday August 17 protest
meetings in front of NAVROM Company headquarters. By reminded decision
Romania's Government will unblock important sums of money from the budget
destined to paying off left salaries of sailors and taking out of arrest
ships held in numerour harbours of the world. RADOR, August 14
[08] Meetings organized by National Trade-Union of Romanian Peasantry
ProPact
National Trade-union of Romanian Peasentry ProPact initiates since August
16 1998 11:00 a.m. Sunday weekly meetings at Ministry of Agriculture and
Food with landowners and woods owners and nationalized enterprises from
rural medium for consulting about problems which are in litigation aiming
to solve them on juridical way. Consultings were initiated as a result of
some analyses which led to the conclusion of violation property rights of
shareholders and tenants from agriculture. RADOR, August 14
[09] Equipment for irrigation are not more asked by farmers
Trade Society ISTIRIG SA Bals a unit profiled on achievement of irrigation
equipment the only with such a profile from Oltenia did not succeed during
this summer to sell to farmers any equipment of the kind. Society's manager
Mr.eng.Ionel Boltas affirms such a situation is unprecedented in history of
this industrial unit the more incomprehensible so as August and September

[10] In Timis county are developing series of manifestations entitled
"Zilele Jimboliene"
On Thursday in Timis county started a new edition of manifestation entitled
"Zilele Jimboliene" after a programme which contains dissertation sessions,
debates of themes and uncoverings of memorial plaques. On the same occasion
will be celebrated 125 years since establishment of Secondary School from
Jimbolia town. RADOR, August 14
[11] Setting free
Former deputy commander of Otopeni Airport Valentin Vasilescu was set free
on Thursday by decision of Military Court Bucharest. Valentin Vasilescu was
arrested about four months ago in business "Tigareta II" being charged by
complicity to smuggling association made for putting into execution of
offences and taking of bribe. In file concerning business with cigarettes
from smuggling there are arrested still two persons: former SPP colonel
Gheorghe Trutulescu and commander Ioan Suciu. RADOR, August 14
