  • [01] SILAJDZIC CRITICIZES HDZ

    Sarajevo, May 14,1996 (Press TWRA)

"The 'Party for B-H' personifies something HDZ does not like, and that is the fight for united B-H and normal relations between B-H and Croatia. Bozo Rajic's statement that there are no Federation, cantons, federal police forces and no mixed cantons represents the open violation of B-H sovereignty", stated dr. Haris Silajdzic, President of 'Party for B-H', on the press conference. Silajdzic consider that HDZ is supporting division of B-H Federation to two national territories, because as he claims, all state insignia of the neighboring Republic Croatia exist in the one part of B-H, and even telephone code. That part of the country has been swamped by big advertisements and posters of the party and the President of the neighboring state. "I think it is the right time to reexamine the mandates of two key persons of the Federation, Zubak and Ganic", concluded Silajdzic. (end) M.S.

    [02] DURAKOVIC ON B-H ELECTIONS

    Sarajevo, May 14,1996 (Press TWRA)

In an interview for "Dnevni Avaz", Nijaz Durakovic comments the forthcoming elections in B-H. Durakovic considers that the situation for SDP (Party of democratic changes) is extremely difficult and describes the position of his party: "We are totally financially devastated party, media blocked, politically fairly obstructed and we will probably take the hardest blows from the ruling parties, because they respect us I believe as the most serious political opponent". The pre-election situation in Mostar is for Durakovic "one big dirty game, because, it is important to know, in that city even Serbian civic council (SGV) has been divided. On the right bank we have the man who voices concept of Great Croatia, although he is Serb and leader of part of SGV. On the left bank is the Mirko Pejanovic's relative who supports the pro-Bosnia-Herzegovina orientation. Now everybody wants to get those Serbian votes which could maybe decide the Mostars elections". Durakovic's opinion on Dayton Accord is that "it is the crown of mistakes and cheep compromises which our negotiators made (...) That agreement was obviously octroyed and imposed by powerful people who rule in B-H. We must be aware, unfortunately, that B-H today is not only protectorate, but also some kind of occupied zone and that we do not have much say in all of that". Durakovic announced his absence from the next elections and gave support to Alija Izetbegovic because: "He is the most deserving for all that is positive, but also the most responsible for all that is negative, so let him carry out this to the end ". [03] UNITED STATE - ALBANIA -KOSOVO-SERBIA

Tirane, Prishtine, May 14,1996 (Press TWRA)

"By opening of US Office in Prishtine by the end of this month the Kosovo's Albanians will be able to feel the readiness of their US friends to help them. US closely follows the policy of Milosevic's regime on Kosovo, and demanded from Belgrade to guarantee Albanians all human and political rights and also to reintroduce the Albanian language to the schools", stated US Congressman Eliot Engel, whom Serbian media see as one of the leaders of Albanian lobby in Washington. In the statement for TV Albania, asked weather US will be mediator in the negotiations between Belgrade and Kosovo's Albanians, Engel replayed: "America follows the events in this region and it is ready to help solve the problems".

Albanian newspaper "Kohajone", which strongly criticizepresent administration in Tirane and especially the President Sali Berisha, who in Albania is accused of being financed by Belgrade, published the estimates on war risk until 2OOO, issued in CIA report. According to CIA estimates Albania is, besides other 37 states (including Macedonian and Yugoslavia) in the "red zone" among the countries with the largest war risk, and of neighboring countries only Greece is among the countries of the low risk. The newspaper claims that the CIA estimates are 7O% probable, and that some former estimates of that agency (on Vietnam and Berlin wall) were incorrect. (end) A.S.
