[02] "I AM HERE AND I WILL STAY HERE", CLAIMS KARADZIC

Pale, Jan 8,1996 (Press TWRA) - "I am here, and I will stay here", said Radovan Karadzic after three weeks of absence from public. In his Christmas massage to Serbs Karadzic said: "Republic srpska, sovereign and recognized, has been crated. [03] KINKEL - IZETBEGOVIC

Sarajevo, Jan 9, 1996 (Press TWRA) - "Unstable situation in Mostar is caused by mafia. Effort must be taken to overcome the situation. Everyone who can should take part in it, first, Croat side which I want to talk to and meet with president Tudjman and minister Granic. Mostar should, by all means, be an integral town the idea being also supported by EU administrator Hans Koschnick. I will personally commit myself in easing the situation in the town and cooperate with the US Secretary of State, Warren Christopher," said head of German diplomacy vice-chancellor Klaus Kinkel at the press conference in Sarajevo after the talks with B-H president A. Izetbegovic and a member of the B-H presidency Stjepan Kljujic and B-H diplomacy head Muhamed Sacirbey.

Said A. Izetbegovic: "I demanded of Kinkel to settle the issue of Mostar, as Germany can do a lot about it. I expressed Kinkel our wish and resolution for Serb population to remain in the Sarajevo region under the B-H Federation authorities. The amnesty for the members of Serb military who have not committed any crime will be considered at the session of the B-H Presidency. I regard Sarajevo as a test for maintenance of multinational and multicultural B-H. We do not want exodus of Serb population from Sarajevo as it would seem that integral, multiethnic B-H is not possible to exist. We do not want to do such a favour to Serb extremists. We want to see our people back to Modrica, Bijeljina and Banjaluka. It will not be possible if exodus is caused here." Kinkel added: "I am grateful to president Izetbegovc for stating explicitly that the interest of the Bosnian government is that Serb population remain here. I appreciate his saying the amnesty would be considered for those who had not committed a crime and that the effort would be made to build trust to strengthen the security of Serbs encouraging them to stay in Sarajevo. Regarding the refugees in Germany, we will not send them back at any cost but help to make conditions for their return. /end/ A.S.

Social democrat Boro Bjelobrk proposed 9 ministries, a president and two vice-presidents. S. Tokic said that bipartisan support caused disharmony. Mostar, Jan 8, 1996 (Press TWRA) - Mijo Brajkovic, mayor of west Mostar, said the armored vehicles of the IFOR Spanish brigade were in the night between Saturday and Sunday exposed to fire from the Bosnian Army positions in the eastern Mostar. Colonel-Lieutenant Ramon Alvarez, IFOR Spanish brigade spokesman, denied the allegation on exchange of fire between the Bosnians and IFOR: "We were not exposed to the attack, so there was no need to respond the fire. [06] BRITISH UNDER FIRE

Sarajevo, Jan 8,1996 (Press TWRA) - "Five to six bullets have been fired on two members of British military police who were driving on the Travnik-Vitez road late last night. [07] UNITED MOSTAR - CONDITION FOR SURVIVAL OF FEDERATION

Mostar, Jan 8,1996 (Press TWRA) - Relating to the latest unrest, EU Administrator in Mostar Hans Koschnik stated for Reuters that if the uniting of Mostar fails to succeed that would be the end of B-H Federation. Koschnik emphasized that experience his country went through with the division of Berlin convinced him about the necessity that European administration units Mostar, and not only restrict itself on the reconstruction of the city. "As a German I can not support the policy of city division or the policy which would made ghetto out of Muslim part of the city", said Koschnik and added, "If Mostar fails to become united city, there will be no Federation... If it becomes clear that there is no will for the joint work, we should pack our bags, collect our money and leave".

The street Boulevard, former first demarcation line is still closed for traffic, and several IFOR armed vehicles constantly patrol along that street. EU Administration in Mostar requested IFOR's assistance to secure this street.

The major of the western part of Mostar Mijo Brajkovic invited all citizens to "stay calm but alert" and demanded from citizens "not to let anyone provoke them".

Sarajevo - "The major of the eastern part of Mostar Safet Orucevic demanded help from NATO after the conflicts intensified on the territory of Mostar", said IFOR spokesman S. Haselow. [08] FRANCOIS MITTERRAND DIED

Paris, Jan 8, 1996 (Press TWRA) - France's ex-President Francois Mitterrand (79) died in his Paris flat this morning. Among all French presidents, Mitterrand had the longest mandate - from 1981 to 1995, two seven-year mandates. He strengthened the Socialist party. Opposed to re-unification of Germany, he supported Serbia in the war against Croatia and Bosnia. Many believe that by trip to Sarajevo June 28, 1992, which formally established air-lift of the humanitarian aid, Mitterrand intentionally disabled the West to militarily intervene against Karadzic. Along with the British Government, he was the main opponent in the West of the action by which Serbian expansionism might have been stopped. (end) A.S.

Since 1992, Egypt's non-governmental organisations delivered humanitarian aid to Bosnia, while the Government in Cairo was opposed to lifting of the arms embargo against Bosnia. (end) A.S.
