THE ISLAND OF SAMOS

AND THE TOWN OF PYTHAGORION

The island of Samos is located in the Eastern Aegean. Pythagorion is the birthplace of Pythagoras, Aristarchus, Melissus and other famous men of philosophy, science and the arts. Pythagorion, together with the surrounding villages, constitutes the Municipality of Pythagorion. In the district of the Municipality of Pythagorion, you can find many ancient monuments (like the great Temple of Hera, the Eupalinion Aqueduct, Samos' Acropolis, Cleopatras' Baths, the City Walls, the Castle, the Spiliani Monastery, the Holy Cross Monastery) and remains from the ancient city of Samos.

Samos is renowned for its scenery and vegetation. It has high mountains -the highest in the Aegean - and a coastline punctuated by delightful pebbly coves and sandy beaches surrounded by clean blue waters.

Adding to the natural greenery of the island's pine trees are its silver-leafed olive trees and abundant vineyards, where Samos' famous sweet muscatel wine is produced.

Discovering Samos, you 'll discover all the beauties of the Greek islands: ancient monuments, archaelogical treasures, charming little villages, sun-drenched beaches, blue sky and clear waters, bright stars and a shining moon.
