HR-Web

HR-Web is a HRG sponsored by the HRI. This project is focused on creating and maintaining a multi-media networked information source with the goal of promoting Greece and issues related to Greece.

HR-Web will take advantage of the unique capabilities of the World Wide Web (WWW). The Web is a system built on the "Internet", the vital backbone of the "information superhighway." It allows for the integration of text, picture, sound and video in complete multimedia presentations, easily available at the click of a button. Documents in Greek and English, photographs and recordings, prepared in a specific format by one author, can be automatically linked to other documents by completely different authors.

Since the Web allows for the creation of a multimedia networked information source, several authors can work together, even though they may be thousands of miles apart. Furthermore, all the material presented using the Web is accessible from any networked point around the world. This way, one can retrieve information from several sources by using references which are available on-line, and can see (and hear) why a picture is worth a thousand words!

By promoting the HR-Web project, the HRI offers people residing anywhere in the world, an opportunity to provide their input and offer their voluntary services for the promotion of Greece. One should consider that while HRI oversees the project, its coordinator is located in Lafayette, Indiana, and members are being recruited from California, Ohio, Rhode Island and Massachusetts!

The promotion of Greek issues by HR-Web will include facts and figures about Greece, an historical overview, essays on Greek civilization and cultural information, to name just a few. The list of subjects for each of these main areas is endless and more ideas are added to it every day. Each subject is autonomously developed by an expert, and upon its completion is converted to electronic form and installed on a computer provided by the HR-Net project which will then make it available to the general public. Although HR-Web is not the first Web source that offers information about Greece, it is the first networked electronic source that is organized and written with the help of academicians and other experts in each field. This will permit the creation of an unparalleled, rich and professional electronic presentation of Greece.
